“all that i know is i don’t know how to be something you miss” is still such a gut punching lyric. all these years later. last kiss as a whole is so haunting, but lyrics like that and “i feel you forget me like i used to feel you breathe” are just so painfully direct in a way that you are when you feel such overwhelming grief for relationships, for friendships when you’re young. it’s all encompassing. it’s suffocating. and as you grow older, those feelings still sit between your ribs each and every time grief plays out in your life even if you don’t visibly show it. and i think that’s why last kiss is such a powerful ballad. it narrates such adolescent yearning and sorrow that bubbles up inside of you with nowhere else to go but to over flood your senses. no matter where you are or how old you get, this teenaged reflection of grief and heartache will always stay ingrained inside of us. each time we feel it, it takes us back to the first time. and last kiss is timeless because of that.
